I had the same problem. After some research i concluded that gcc don't
like the Sun Assembler so i intalled binutils package from SunFreeware
and every thing ( not only kannel ) started to compile. 

I have some patches to Solaris build and worked fine on Solaris 2.8. Can
you test them on 2.6 

OT: If you have any troubles compiling perl modules i also recomend a
upgrade to perl.
