How to detect how many SMS?

Dear all,

Is there a method/calculation to determine how many SMS
a message would be if you send :
1. TEXT
2. HEX (for example ringtone and logo).

I need to know as some of the ringtones and logos that my
client send through my gateway takes more than 1 SMS to
deliver, but there is no way for my application to know at
the moment.
