Aliasing sender.. ?

is it possible to alias the sender...

for example your access number is 2222.. if someone pushes an sms message to 
any mobile phone... it will show the number 2222 as the sender..


what i want is to put an alias to 2222 lets say sms_daemon (cool)...
if i send an sms message to 2222.. the receiver will show sms_daemon as the 
sender.....  

i was assuming this can be done on sms gateway and not on the telecom side.. 
correct me if im wrong...
