you should pick-up the current cvs HEAD branch. Beside other projects,
our cvs HEAD tree is usually considered very stable and is widely used
in production environments. (including our at Wapme with over 230 SMSC
links ;)

check out /doc/examples/modems.conf which contains the init strings of
most supported GSM modems or GSM phones that can be used as GSM modem.
