How do the sms messages are stored in the kannel?

I am a newbie to the Kannel. I am trying to understand the kannel code.

How does the sms mesages are stored in the kannel?.In which file they are stored?.
Do all the messages are stored in the physical file and deleted or only undelivered messages are stored?.
Please help me.
