System error 24: Too many open files

Hi

Im running Kannel 1.2 and i get the following error on my Linux RH8 box 
with high SMS traffic.

2008-02-01 20:27:13 [8] ERROR: gethostbyname failed
2008-02-01 20:27:13 [8] ERROR: System error 24: Too many open files
2008-02-01 20:27:13 [8] ERROR: error connecting to server `xx.xx.xx' at 
port `80'
2008-02-01 20:27:13 [8] ERROR: Couldn't send request to 
<http://xx.xx.xx/sms/main.phtml?..........>

cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max shows me that i have 205754 file descriptors 
available...

SMS traffic is about 1500-1700 SMS per minute.

Any advice?
