SMPP connection thread blocked by DLR sql query

Hello,
 
 
I saw this problem few times in my SMPP connection logs.
When mysql connection dies for some reason (but tcp socket is still open),
trafiic to my smpp sms center is totally blocked.
After 15 mins (tcp timeout) when mysql connection gets reconnected i have
smpp traffic back.
Anyone seen this problem before ? I guess it can be fixed by calling sql
queries in a separate thread/process. 
 
I've tested it with various kannel and libmysql versions
