Help Keep getting read() Timeout when tring to send SMS

Hi,

Can any one help. I have a Redhat8 box which uses an external analogue
modem. I keep getting the following message when trying to send a sms
message.


sms_client vodafone_tap:number "Test"....
 the output is as follows

Dialing SMSC 0385499993....

Warning: read() Timeout.

I have edited the file under /etc/sms/services/vodafone_tab to use
international dialing codes and have entered my number using international
dialing codes to no avail.
Can someone point me in the right direction.
