Honestly I don't think there is problem in Lightning. But Lightning
seems to trigger a bug in Thunderbird or the Mozilla Toolkit.

Based on your reports and the note in the bug report it seems that there
was a bug but is already fixed in more recent development builds. Could
you help to test what versions are affected?

Thunderbird 34.0b1 + Lightning 3.6b1 is broken
Thunderbird 37.0a1 + Lightning 3.9a1 is working

What about
Thunderbird 33.0b1 + Lightning 3.5b1?
Thunderbird 35.0a2 + Lightning 3.6a2?
Thunderbird 36.0a1 + Lightning 3.7a2?

You can find old test builds on
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/2014/ and
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/nightly/2014/

Identifying the date when the problem started might help to identify the
check-in that caused it. Identifying the date when the problem stopped
might help to identify the check-in that fixed it.
