question about java control panel

I hope this is the right newsgroup for this question and, if it is not, 
please forgive me and point me in the right direction! A few days ago 
when I booted up, I got a message that there were updates to java, which 
I downloaded and installed. Since then, I have no java icon in my 
systray, so I can't figure out how to open the control panel and clear 
my cache or do other things. How can I get the icon back? TIA!
