Mozilla mailer refuses to send attachments

It happens on both: Macintosh and Windows versions:

I want to attach a file with no extension, and I receive the message:

"Sending of mesage failed. Please verify your mail & Newsgroup account 
settings are correct, and try again"

I wanted to send a JPEG-data. As soon as the ending ".jpg" was added to 
that file the transmission worked.

It also happens "mp3" files even wit the ending added.

Who knows how to do those settings?
