I have the same problem on my PowerMac and PowerBook.  I've tried the same
things, as well as updating to Java 4.1 with no resolution of the problem.
Like yourself I find it crashes on adserver.backbeatmedia, with
www.macsurfer.com being the surest way (almost every time) of getting
Mozilla to crash.
