Thanks for the pointer - I must have seen something like this, though. 
Because I have my Mozilla and Profile folders in the Spotlight denial 
list and the problem still persists.

I can also note that I've seen it on several different machines.  And 
that as of today, it's not only occuring on close of NS - I've seen it 
on open of NS, and on navigation between websites without attempting to 
alter my bookmarks manually.
