how to stop web browser redirects to download url when clicking?

hi,i'm developing a npapi plugin to monitor which user click a url to download file,i.e zip file. 
now i can monitor this action, and get the zip file url,but the  web browser still redirects to the zip file url.
So, how can i stop the web browser's actions, and keep the web browser staying in the origin page url?
