Keep mailnews threads closed?

Somethign that bothers me is that mozilla opens some threads when I start to 
read a newsgroup, I would like to keep all threads closed when I open a 
newsgroup, is there a setting for this in mozilla or do I hhave to live with a 
bit random opened threads (even such that I never have read).
