Weird behaviour on running firefox when it is already open

Hi all,

I am running gentoo on an x86 box and have both firefox 1.02 and
mozilla 1.7.5 installed.

Since a short time when I click on the firefox icon with firefox already
running, instead of opening a new browser window, I get the new york times
page loaded in my already open browser (http://www.nytimes.com/).

In mozilla I get an Alert box saying "www.,new-.com could not be found.
Please check the name and try again" instead of a new browser window.

The same thing happens when I launch the browsers from the
console.

I would appear that a script somewhere is screwed up, but I cannot find
where.

Any help would be much appreciated
