Would have been of help to link the docs you are referring to as well. :-) But in general, not searching for the suffix ".PM" should be OK, yes. Things heavily depend on wording used in docs and instructions, because ".PM" most likely simply is a concrete file extensions, while the file might contain multiple different packages and stuff like that. So things depend on if you are searching for a file or a a package or ...
