What's the Big Deal with Firefox?

I have been using Mozilla for a couple of years now, and I love it.

They seem to be pushing Firefox over Mozilla for some reason, so I
downloaded it and gave it a try.  I didn't really like it and I went
back to plain vanilla Mozilla.

So I wonder why why the heavy promotion of Firefox?  

Mozilla is older and presumably more mature and stable, etc.
