I find it easier to edit a png image in GIMP / Photoshop and then use Greenfish to make the ico.
That may come from the benefit of Linux that doesn't use ICO files for images,  only PNG.  Not even in Windows programs run under wine. 
Either way, I do the same for a lot of my programs both windows and linux.
