Yes, we ran into it while using MBCS - in Chinese, there are double-bte characters where 1st byte has the same code as copyright symbol, so Chinese text verification issued an Error when we tried to place a copyright symbol - 'You have only a half of a Chinese letter in your string!" It was in "About" box of our application so _had to_ force ID department to use 3 symbols - (c) - instead :-) While a Unicode string would not have such issue... Moreover, if you want to _mix_ say Shift_JIS and BIG5 text on the same Web page, then you have no other choice as have it as UTF-8 - I have a "beginner's page about UTF-8 in HTML": http://RusWin.net/mix.htm -- Regards, Paul Gorodyansky "Cyrillic (Russian): instructions for Windows and Internet": http://RusWin.net http://Kbd.RusWin.net - First On-screen keyboard working in Mozilla Ñ óâàæåíèåì, Ïàâåë Ãîðîäÿíñêèé Èíñòðóêöèè: ðóññêèé ïîä Windows è â Èíòåðíåòå: http://RusWin.net Íîâûé ñêðèïò - Ðóññêàÿ Âèðòóàëüíàÿ Êëàâèàòóðà: http://Klava.RusWin.net
