What do you mean by the "bookmarks toolbar"? Do you mean the bookmarks button, the personal toolbar or the bookmarks menu? And when you say they've "vanished", is there a little ">>" on the far right of the PT? If so, click it and you should see all your bookmarks there. I usually find that restarting Mozilla fixes this (although I haven't been able to narrow the causes down to file a bug).
