I do recall reading that quicklaunch has been finicky at best on a vanilla install.
So, while not directly answering your question, hopefully that does help somewhat.

(I personally would never use it, while it might speed up the program's launch,
it takes resources away from other processes that could use them.  Plus, if you have
a computer which this extra resource usage doesn't bother you, then you probably wouldn't
really need the quicklaunch to begin with)
