What's funny is that if you think back to the beginnings of Firefox, the 
decision for the lack of a splash panel was that Firefox was supposed to 
start up so quickly that one should not be needed. However I, too, find 
that SM 1.1.8 comes to life faster than any of the new FF's (including 
3.5.2), which still lack a splash panel.

That's irony for you...
