Re: Removing Firefox Version Number

I've been a Firefox user and promoter since it exists and as a
starting point I would like to thank all people who contributed to it.

Reading about this planned change in an Internet news magazine had the
following effect on me: WTF?

In fact I came here to create an account just in order to comment
about this.
It's not that this would be such a big issue, it's just that I'm
shocked to see that the Mozilla team is losing time and energy for
such stupid details while constantly losing ground against the
competition, mainly because of technical reasons in my options.

There was arguing like "the user doesn't need to know".
Yes, that may be true. But then you could even argue that most users
never open the about dialog anyway. It's even true to say that most
users will never use ANY menu entries at all, hence many applications,
like the Windows Explorer, now by default don't even show it.

But the point is: of the few (in terms of percentage) users who
actually use the about dialog, most will do this in order to check the
version. That means that by moving this information to the
troubleshooting window, there will be no effect on most users, and the
effect on users who use it, like me, will be that they will be annoyed
by this breaking of conventions. What for?

Like already pointed out before by others, I don't see this to be a
valid argument. Firefox is not "web software", but locally installed
software.

If you don't totally disregard your users, all this negative feedback
should convince you to at least postpone this step.
