Most _users_ are not professionals. They just want a 
program/system/appliance to work. They also have gotten used to a 
particular GUI, and hate like hell to see it change just because Someone 
Or Other thought a tweak would be a good idea. They also like to know 
where they're at, especially if they are contemplating an 
update/upgrade. So little things like version numbers do matter.

As I said in anther moz group, I'm not religious about FF. So far, the 
"improvements" haven't been deal-breakers, but hiding the version number 
is a deal-breaker for me. I've just downloaded Chrome, it has a number 
of real idiocies in its design (making the address bar the search box is 
one), so it will go as soon as I've finished here and fired up Revo 
Uninstaller. The fact that it's blazingly fast compared to other 
browsers just isn't enough to persuade me to give up GUI design of FF, 
Safari, and IE, which are about as different as Fords and Chevies.

In the meantime, recent tests indicate that IE9 is better at blocking 
evil websites than Firefox. H'm, the shields on this system have 
protected it very well, but why increase risk when a change in software 
will reduce it?

So my _strong_ advice to the devs is: forget about bells and whistles, 
and the personal-favourite tweaks. There are only three things that will 
keep me with FF:
a) make it as secure as possible;
b) make it as stable as possible;
c) fix the weaknesses such as memory leaks, failure to connect with a 
website on first attempt, etc.
