I have reworked the reading of subtitle files. The two major 
user-visible changes are:

* It can now deal with encodings where every character takes up more 
than one byte, like UTF-16.
* The default encoding, if the “characterset” attribute is not specified 
on the <textsub> tag, is no longer ISO-8859-1, but taken from your 
locale setting.
