Are you able to run this under gdb:

     gdb dvdunauthor
     (gdb) set args /media/ROADTOPERDITION_PAL_ITALY
     (gdb) break exit
     (gdb) break abort
     (gdb) run

Then when the program hits the breakpoint,

     (gdb) bt

to see the traceback.

Might help to install libdvdread-dbg (debug symbols) as well.
