Can you make a sample available somewhere? Including the XML files, PNG
files, with just a short video sequence to keep the file size down?

You can default the video format at build time (see ./configure --help
for details), or specify it on a per-user or systemwide basis (as
described at <http://create.freedesktop.org/wiki/Video_Format_Pref>).

Older versions would always have optimized away transparent pixels
around the edges, which is why they need to put in the xoffset and
yoffset to compensate.
