Things like these tend to be problems on some, but not all players.
Its one of those "how compatible do you want to be?" questions.

1. Some players will automatically stretch 544x480 to fill the screen,
some won't.
2. Some players will seamlessly play separately muxed clips, some will
freeze for a split second.

etc.

I never bothered investigating DL disks, but it doesn't surprise me
that The Right Thing is to set it as non-seamless.  It also wouldn't
surprise me if it just worked for some players regardless.
