live view shooting

Hi List. Is there any seamless way to shoot using gphoto2 or python gphoto using live view?. I can take photos and I can run live view, but if I am in live view mode I have to stop it and take a photo. That does not work well. If I simply close LiveView then the photo camera (Canon 40D) became unresponsive to gphoto till the camera restart. I guess I close live view incorrectly, is there any correct way to do it? Am I missing something? I appreciate any hints.
