Thanks, I found this a couple of minutes after I sent of the
original e-mail - it always happens that way!

I suspect the basic CD driver is at the root of my problems.
I've upgraded my kernel several times over the pas couple of
years - I'm now running 2.6.7 if that's significant. The machine
is an IBM Thinkpad A21m, don't know what the drive is, though
using dmesg | fgrep hdc gives:
ide1: BM-DMA at 0x1c18-0x1c1f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
hdc: CRN-8241U, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 24X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33)
if that helps...

No, yes. (that is I don't double click, and it plays the next track when I
press enter).

If I could sort out the major failings, I'd be happy without this, though
it would be nicer to have it. I'm sure it would be possible to squeeze
it in, but I haven't dug that far into the code yet...
