It uses the sendmail command on your system.  That will connect
directly to the freedb.org mail server and submit the mail.

Are you sure there's no network activity?  I've run ethereal and
captured all data on port 25 while submitting info via grip and it
shows me that it sends the info to freedb.org.

I think the first step is figuring out what's failing and where.  If
there aren't any error messages from grip and running ethereal to
capture packets while you make a submission doesn't show anything
that's wrong I would try to send to yourself and see if you receive
it.  Ideally you would use your_username@localhost.  Using localhost
will avoid the possibility that your mail gets sent but is dropped or
rejected by the receiving mail server.
