The C means that the file context doesn't match what SELinux thinks it
should be.  If you're not running SELinux in enforcing mode, then I
don't think it will matter.

You can find out what mode SELinux is in by running the getenforce
command.  It should output either enforcing, permissive, or disabled.
If it's in enforcing mode, you can set it to permissive by running (as
root):

    setenforce Permissive

I don't know SELinux well enough to know whether this is likely to be
the problem or not.  I am running up to date FC4 installs on two of my
machines, none of which have SELinux in enforcing mode, both of which
have lame installed.

Where did your lame package come from?  I have one system using
packages from rpm.livna.org and another using freshrpms.net.  Both
have worked fine for encoding using lame.
