newbie queries

hi grip folks,

i got an ipod for xmas and i want to use linux to play with it.

i need first to rip music from my cd's, then load it to the ipod.

my understanding is that the ipod will play mp3 encoded files.

i downloaded grip and lame and have installed them locally.

i get ...

i see the ripping is to .wav files, but they are encoded to these .ogg 
files.
i have seen the various config options, but am unclear how to get my mp3 
encoding.

executable = /usr/local/bin/lame
command line=-h -b %b %w %m
file format= %x

my question is, how do i setup configure to generate .mp3 encoded files?

grip = 3.0.4
lame = 3.97
