It will also play AAC/MP4 files (though there are less tools for

I think the last one is what's getting you.  What do you have for
"Encode file extension" ?  I'm betting it's ogg.  The %x in file
format is a placeholder that will get replaced by whatever is in the
file extension setting.

I'll also bet that your files actually are mp3's, but they're just
named .ogg.  Try running the file command on one of them and see what
it says (e.g. file bad_enough.ogg).  If file tells you that they're
mp3 files, you can just rename them to .mp3.

Why 3.0 instead of the current stable 3.2.0?  (Even the 3.3.1 devel
version is quite stable, I've used it for ages now.)
