proxying freedb lookups through squid

Is anyone here using grip on a machine sitting behind a squid proxy server? The reason I'm asking is that I have squid sitting on my firewall as a caching proxy server. When grip tries to do a freedb lookup it never gets a response. A bit of leg work on my firewall shows that the request never gets to the proxy server. I verified this using tcpdump. I used to be able to use grip with my proxy server with an older version of grip. Does anyone have any ideas of where to go from here?
