Well duh, a few lousy seconds after sending this I noticed the "Delay
encoding until disc is ripped" option on the Rip -> Options tab.
Checking that and setting the max non-encoded .wav's to something
larger than the number of tracks on your cds ought to enable you to
run normalize on the wav files before any of them are encoded.

I'm using 3.3.1.  It's possible some of these options aren't in 3.2.0.
