This is not so strange. That protocol spec only pertains to Nomad Jukebox 
1 which has a totally different hardware, protocol and operating system 
than the 2, 3 and zen variants. There is no documentation for the 
newer protocol.

You can read protocol3.c and protocol3.h from libnjb if you want to get a 
hint of how it works.
