libnjb udev/hal integration

Greetings--

I work on Amarok, which supports NJB devices natively through libnjb,  
and am in contact with the guys working on Solid for KDE4.  One things  
that is common to most of the proprietary libraries (libgpod, libifp,  
libmtp, etc) is that there is no good way to detect when such a device  
is plugged in, as well as what type of device it is.

I know that libnjb provides hotplug files.  However, hotplug is not  
widely used in most modern distributions.  The current way to do this  
lies with udev/HAL.  I won't go into them, as I'm sure you're well  
aware of what they do and how they work, but the long and short of it  
is that if libnjb had a udev ruleset and a matching hal FDI file, NJB  
devices could be detected as such immediately upon plugging in.  It  
could even be possible to load libnjb and access the device to present  
the user with options without the user having to do any sort of setup.

There are three things that are really relevant here:
1) USB Vendor ID
2) USB Product ID
3) Supported input/output formats

Having that information for supported devices would allow for a large  
degree of automation in terms of setup and accessing of the device.

I'm quite willing to help out with this.  I hope that you'll take it  
under serious consideration and that we could get this done  
soon...this is something that could help out every device  
management-capable application out there.
