Yes, thats the problem. A large team working on a small project.
Evryone wants to have dozens of features. So it becomes really large. 
And then nobody wants to cut it off into pieces.

Well, glib/gtk/gnome is still "tiny" in this way. Look at KDE + QT.
QT3 had become almost its own operating system ... it requires half
a day to compile (on slower machines multiple days)

Does does teamwork help if I dont get what I need ?
I also require those libs for small embedded systems where memory is 
really rare. If the library structure would be designed well, it wouldn't
mean any limitation for them, but they simply didnt listen.
The folks on the gtk-list sounded like politicians - why should we repair
broken design when it works somehow.

I know quite many projects, which don't want to use glib for that reasons.

No, I really mean, that they did not understand what I was talking about. 
There was only one person who ever heared about garbage collection, but
though it was something for debugging.

For those complex graphs which appear in modern GUIs, a GC can help really
a lot, as well for stability (so simply dont think about free() anymore)
as for smaller and faster code.

I told this to them, but nobody recognized me - nobody replied. 
This phenomenon was quite normal on the list these day - from time to
time somebody comes with some fundamental new ideas or wants to do 
some conceptional cleanups, nobody replies. But the longest threads are
those about animated buttons and such useless things.
