The other part is invention which rarely happens when you're just copying things and end up doing roughly the same thing... I think that we already achieved invention with Matroska because of the EBML concept behind it (binary XML with semantic and grammar separated and default values). That's an improvement over existing IFF formats (AVI, QT)...
