Hi everyone! Is anyone of you currently working on a human visual model in connection with the tarkin project? Is there any generally accepted formula from which most effects like contrast sensitivities and pattern masking can be derived for arbitrary shapes, at least qualitatively? Any general principles? How much is due to the optics or the eye and the properties of the retina (probably still a linear phenomenon) and how much is due to the signal processing in the brain (probably nonlinear)? Anyone? I am not afraid of formulas ... I have read a couple of papers by now and it all seems a mess to me! I still hope that I am wrong!
