Some suggested replacements/changes to sections of http://joinordie.org/vorbis.com/faq.html As requested by Oldman on #vorbis. (hi! :) #lossy (might be worth mentioning that flac is not only lossy, but can be included in ogg files now - support for flac as a lossless audio codec within ogg is improving all the time) #comments Q Does Ogg Vorbis have the capability to show song titles and artist information when the file is played or streamed? I don't see any in the test files. Yes, Vorbis includes a flexible and extensible comment field for song and artist info, as well as other track data. The reference encoder allows you to enter comment info at encode-time. Other 3rd-party encoding tools also let you enter or edit track data. The format allows for an almost unlimited number of comments, of almost any size, providing plenty of room to include any information nescessary. See here for the Xiph documentation, and also read the controversial suggested fields. The comment field is not intended to be a complete metadata solution however. #video Q Where's video? Tarkin is an experimental cutting-edge video codec, not expected to see results for years. Theora is a complete video solution, combining the VP3 video codec from On2 with Vorbis audio, and is expected to be released in 2003. Both Theora and Tarkin will exist within the ogg specifications. #unique (This answer mentions the comment header again - this is unessesary) --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to '[email protected]' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
