I have had this exact same problem with the exact same setup. I have two 
machines with Gentoo 1.4 and xmms 1.2.7 and one works, the other 
doesn't. I traced through the code and found that it is never setting a 
result value that is required to advance to the next song. I believe it 
might be in the ALSA drivers. I have two different sound cards between 
the two systems and that is the largest difference. I also deleted the 
entire .xmms directory to see if that was the problem, as this usually 
fixes the oddities I've encountered with it, but to no avail. Something 
I haven't tried yet is to use a different output plugin. I just thought 
of that now. I'll try that when I get home.
