Well, I'd be interested in seeing it changed...  I'd like to use libxmms
calls from the client side of some Quake 3 [engine] mods, so that some
simple song controls can be performed from in the game.

(Since the game is usually full screen, it's difficult to do that
otherwise, and the license the gamecode is released under is...  not
GPL. ;)
