	If your "old Dell" motherboard is an Intel i810 series (including i815
and other models), with builtin soundcard, you need the following
modules installed:

host:~# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
i810_audio             24320   1
ac97_codec             10112   0  [i810_audio]

Your kernel configs must allow those drivers to be loadable as modules;
I believe the Debian kernel-image .deb packages are so configured. Test
the modules by running modprobe on them, then retrying your XMMS
playback. When they work, add them to /etc/modules . If you're using a
daughterboard soundcard (some i810 motherboards don't have the soundchip
on the motherboard), you'll have to search the Web for which driver
drives your particular model soundcard, and install that.
