XMMS will only have proper length estimates for MP3s with a useful Xing
header (containing the number of frames and the number of bytes.)  The
mp3 you noticed problems with probably didn't have one.

FWIW, I haven't updated my CVS tree in a while, so there could be an
actual problem with xmms.
