Firefox and XMMS resource clash in linux?

Firstly guys, Thank you!  thanks for a great MP3 and media player!!! 
keep up the great work.

Now I don't know how best to describe this, (could be an XMMS problem, 
Could be a Mozilla Firefox problem, could be an XFree86 problem, or 
could just be me:) ) but here it goes anyhow.   Are there any resouce 
conflicts on linux between XMMS and Firefox and or Xwindows? When I run 
them both together Firefox really runs like a dog and takes up all my 
system resources (I'm only running a AMD K6 400MHz PC with 256MB of ram, 
so I don't have many, hence what atracted me to firefox in the first place)

xmms version 1.2.8
