What output plugin are you using?  All output plugins do some buffering, 
and the amount is usually configurable too.

This sounds slightly like a hardware issue, i.e. that there is some kind
of interaction issue between the sound card and the network card, but do
try to increase the buffering somewhat and see if that helps.
