OS X 64 bit, was: Power Mac G5 donation

Unfortunately, that will not change in OS X. Currently there are no 
plans to port the AppKit, or even the FoundationKit to 64 bit. I 
believe only libsystem and one other lib (which I forgot) has been 
ported to 64 bit. Apple is soliciting developer input on what to port.
64 bit apps on Tiger will first be GUI-less background applications, 
communicating to a 32 bit GUI-front end. The only reason to port things 
to 64 bit - if I understood the documentation correctly - is to use 
more than 4 GB of memory in a single process.

On the up side, 32 bit apps run without penalty on 64 bit systems and 
not in a compatibility mode or such.

With this, I doubt there is a reason to start a 64 bit Mac port of 
OpenOffice. Then again, I have no brain so I might be wrong.
